Exciting New Opportunity!

There are three meetings taking place this afternoon and they are all on the level with action coming from Goodwood, Hamilton and Epsom.  There was no jump racing yesterday either with the abandonment of Newton Abbot due to waterlogging.  The stable had one runner, Street Entertainer who ran a great race to finish runner-up in the 3m1 1/2f handicap hurdle at Cartmel.  It was a good performance on his first try at the trip, particularly considering he was shouldering top weight in a hot race.  It opens up more opportunities for him and perhaps there is a little more improvement to come?

I had a good day again yesterday mainly due to the exploits of Wor Lass who won her sixth consecutive race when bolting up at Newcastle.  I have backed her on the last four occasions so she is quickly turning into one of my favourite horses of the flat season...or am I talking through my pocket?!  Her jockey Anna Hesketh must have pictures of the mare all over her house!

Talking of lady jockeys, I was shocked to see that Hayley Turner has decided to retire from the saddle.  She is frustrated by the lack of opportunities at the top level.  I have had a look through the jockeys' standings and Hayley is currently lingering in 61st place in the championship.  Unfortunately it will always be difficult for lady jockeys to get rides in Group races as owners and trainers choose to put up stronger male jockeys.  It's not fair, but it is a way of life.  I guess it is a bitter pill to swallow for Hayley who has enjoyed success at the top level.

I hope you followed me and had a little wager on England to beat the Aussies in their T20 cricket match yesterday.  It was close with England only winning by five runs, although we still get paid out all the same!  Indeed, I had an excellent day yesterday with four winning bets - I am on a bit of a roll at the moment and I might play up some of my winnings on Leyton Hewitt who is 2/1 to beat Nedovyesov in the US Open tennis...mind you, that price is only available with Hills.

Manchester United have signed a nineteen year old Monaco lad for £36 million which could rise to £57 million.  The world has gone mad!  Meanwhile, my mates lad Matt Jarvis could be on his way out of West Ham.  I played table tennis with his father, Nicky who comes in our Cheltenham Festival marquee each year.
