Tom Scudamore chose the right meeting to go to yesterday as he rode Border Breaker to win the feature contest at Perth.  He won by a hard fought head under a good ride from Tom and he picked up just under £10,000 for his efforts so the long trip was well worth while.  Meanwhile young amateur jockey Tom Greatrex nearly rode his first winner as Skylander finished runner-up in the closing amateur riders' handicap hurdle.  He is a promising young jockey and I am sure it won't be long before he is going one better.

Today there are four meetings taking place with flat cards from Doncaster, Carlisle and Kempton as well as a jumps fixture from Uttoxeter.  David has four runners at Uttoxeter with Lilbourne Legacy, Dusk Till Dawn, Kalifourchon and Standing Ovation representing the stable.  Dusk Till Dawn won an Irish point-to-point before finishing runner-up in a Worcester bumper on his debut for the stable so we know he can jump.  The step up in trip looks sure to suit and he should go very well.  The same comments apply to Kalifourchon who comes here in good form having won two of his last three starts and he carries bottom weight in this handicap, while Standing Ovation was the gutsy winner of the Listed Mildmay Chase at Newton Abbot last time.  He reverts to hurdles from a mark 16lbs lower than his chase mark so clearly holds very good claims.  Lilbourne Legacy showed some fair form in point-to-points but would need to improve on his debut to figure here - Tom Scudamore is aboard all four runners.

It is the first day of the St Leger meeting at Doncaster today and while the Listed race is the supposed highlight, I think that the 'Leger Legends' race is actually the bigger draw.  The race gives spectators an opportunity to re-live the glory days of some of the greatest names from the sport of years gone by (and Luke Harvey!).  This year it really is a Legends race, with A P McCoy taking part - I was most amused to read the headlines in the paper as Harvey says "I still think in a driving finish I'll beat McCoy".  Harvey would never beat A P in a driving finish, even if he were in a car.

I suppose with the likes of Luke Harvey competing, the title "Legends" is a little misleading!  Having said that - he did have a 100% record as a jockey for MCP.  He had one ride and one winner...Martin was never too keen to put him up again!

I did manage to get £40 on with Ladbrokes about their Wayne Rooney special to score against Switzerland last night although I had to go into four different shops to do it!  I hope a few of you followed me and had some of the 4/5 about England, my fifth winning football bet of the week.  Talking of the England match, it was a terrible game - I don't think that either team played very well and it was extremely boring to watch...I kept switching over to East Enders (which is nothing like the East End that I grew up in!).

September's here and it will be Christmas before you know it...speaking of which two fire crews had to put out a Christmas Pudding blaze after a microwave caught fire in Barnstaple, Devon.  It was a Yule log fire!
