There's a quiet afternoon in store on the domestic front with just two flat meetings from Bath and Ffos Las.  Mind you, there is a fantastic card from Ireland with the Curragh host five Group races including three Group One's.  Even so, many of the top jockeys including messrs Dettori and Buick have travelled in the opposite direction to ride at Longchamp in France.  Personally, I think there should be at least one jumps meeting of a weekend when more people are able to attend.

You should keep next weekend free if at all possible as it is Newmarket's first ever Open weekend - if you are into your racing it is a must visit, there is so much history to the place.  I was fortunate enough to spend the weekend with MCP and the late, great Sir Henry Cecil a few years ago.  Sir Henry treated us like royalty - I will never forget it.  Anyway, if you are thinking of paying Newmarket a visit, more details can be found at: www.newmarketopenweekend.co.uk.

I was gobsmacked to see a recent picture of former world boxing champion Prince Naseem Hamed.  Remember, he used to box at under ten stone...now he looks as if he would struggle to do under twenty stone!  He used to somersault over the top rope, whereas now he looks as though he would struggle to get under the bottom rope.  Who ate all the pies (although obviously I'm too much of a coward to ask him that myself!)?

Talking of boxing, I see that boxer Floyd Mayweather has been offered £100 million to contest another fight.  Surely he could find another mug to knock over for even greater money?  Amir Khan wants to fight Mayweather, although it looks as if the young Brit is just looking for a bumper payday.  I'm sure Khan would get knocked out, but at least the money would soften the blow!

There are two football matches taking place this afternoon and they are both on Sky Sports - I have already reserved my seat so you know where I will be!  The first match is a Midland Derby between Leicester and Aston Villa and I reckon this will go the way of Leicester, while later on I reckon Spurs will beat Sunderland - the only trouble with Tottenham is that they are so unpredictable so I won't be getting too heavily involved.

Finally, another true story to mull over this weekend...did you know that if you tether an elephant to a parking meter in Florida, the fee has to be paid into the meter?  What a strange law...I wonder if that is just on trunk roads?!
