Today we have four meetings to look forward to with three flat cards from Yarmouth, Sandown and Beverley as well as a National Hunt fixture from Kelso.  We make the long journey up to Scotland with Purple 'N Gold (pictured above) who contests the handicap chase.  Our six year old was successful at Worcester on his only start over fences to date, posting a very professional performance and he contests his first handicap over the larger obstacles today.  It looks like a competitive race and he does have to defy a mark of 129 which is 4lbs higher than his hurdle mark but he looks as though he may make a better chaser - a clear round of jumping should see him go close under Tom Scudamore.  The locals will not be able to understand owner Keith Webb's accent - Keith is a real character who has had horses in training at Pond House for a long, long time.

I was watching the racing on television yesterday afternoon and was intrigued to see the winner of the seller at Chepstow make £11,500.  The three year old Hillgrove Angel was an easy enough winner of the race although there didn't look to be an awful lot of strength in depth.  He was bought at the subsequent auction by Linda Perrett so he will head north and I would imagine that a hurdling career will beckon shortly.

It wasn't a good night for English football clubs in Europe with both of the Manchester sides losing in the Champions League.  United were beaten 2-1 at PSV on a particularly bad night for the team - Luke Shaw broke his leg in two places and will be out of action for a year.  Meanwhile City lost at home to Juventus - it's amazing how our clubs seem to struggle in Europe...and I thought we were supposed to have the best League in the world?!

Tonight Chelsea take on Maccabi Tel Aviv on BT Sport at 7.45pm.  The more I hear from Jose Mourinho, the more convinced I am that he is losing the plot...only the other day he told one of the scribes to Google an answer to one of his questions!  Let's hope that Chelsea win or I can see the men in white coats coming to take him away!  Also tonight Arsenal are away to Zagreb...it could be another bad night for the English clubs.

I watched British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua fight the other night and couldn't help but be impressed.  Joshua looks like a future world champion to me and I will look forward to seeing him take on Dillian Whyte on December 12th.  The problem he faces is that there is a shortage of world class heavyweights and he is knocking them all over in the opening rounds.  He will beat Dillian Whyte (and probably knock him out) and he must step up in class.
