Our only runner of the day yesterday, Purple 'N Gold performed creditably when finishing third in the handicap chase at Kelso. It looked like a competitive little race with the winner supplementing it's recent success under a penalty. Purple 'N Gold was having to concede lumps of weight to those around him and I am sure there will be other days for him. His new chase mark of 129 leaves very little room for manoeuvre although he still has the option of running in a novices' chase under a penalty.
Today we have three meetings taking place, all on the flat from Ayr, Pontefract and Chelmsford and unsurprisingly the stable does not have any runners.
Looking at the action from yesterday I see there was plenty of interest in the winner of the two year old claimer. It is unsurprising really when you consider that the William Haggas trained Caymus won by six lengths over the minimum trip. Seven claims went in for the winner and it will be interesting to see what Miss T Waggot can do with this one.
Despite taking the bold and commendable step of resurfacing the course, unfortunately Yarmouth seem to have been having trouble with their new surface and they were forced to abandon their meeting after the 3.30pm race yesterday. The ground was pretty quick and heavy downpours during the daytime made the ground very slippery...something certainly doesn't seem quite right there.
I don't really know trainer Mark Johnston, but he always comes across as a very knowledgeable chap so it is always worth listening when he speaks. He has openly criticised Carlisle for watering their ground when there was rain forecast. I do agree with him and it is something that I have mentioned a number of times in the past - it can lead to inconsistent and bottomless ground...I'm not sure why the courses seem to like watering so much?
We went down the River Dart on a steam train last night on one of those murder mystery trips. Our party was extremely noisy and I reckon a few of the other passengers would have liked to have murdered George who was dressed like a magician...sadly he didn't keep disappearing!
It is Carol Pipe's birthday today and being a gentleman I will not reveal her age. Needless to say, I will be helping her celebrate today when we have a party in the Italian in Torquay. Martin may have been the trainer a few years ago, but Carol was always the boss! We hope you have a great day...

It was another bad night for the Brits in Europe last night as Arsenal managed to lose to Zagreb. The last time Zagreb won in Europe was 1999 and furthermore, they had never previously beaten an English opponent...oh dear! Olivier Giroud clearly has very little sense as he was sent off after receiving two stupid yellow cards. Wenger should have signed some new players - this lot clearly are not good enough.

Finally, did you hear the one about the crooked optician? They sent him to prism! Have a nice day...
