What a great win yesterday from Weather Babe (pictured above) at Bangor! Our mare never looked comfortable in the three mile novices' chase and was the first of the three runners to come under pressure, yet she kept digging in under a persistent ride from Tom Scudamore and she began to get on top approaching the last. A good leap there sealed it and she was driven out to score by a hard fought 1 1/2 lengths. She is tough and genuine and kept responding for pressure despite not appearing to enjoy the sharp nature of the track - you wouldn't mind having a yard full of horses with her attitude. It was also great to get a winner for stable sponsors Wayne and Sarah Clifford and furthermore, Sarah is the proud breeder too...well done everybody!
I thought that our other runner yesterday, Impulsive American also ran well in the juvenile hurdle finishing just under two lengths second to odds-on favourite Paddy's Runner. His jumping was better on this occasion and he looks like a winner waiting to happen.
There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Ascot and Wolverhampton as well as jump fixtures from Fontwell and Hexham. Tom Scudamore makes the long journey up to Hexham where he rides Skylander and Willem for the stable. Skylander was a winner over hurdles at Newton Abbot last time out but now makes his rules chasing debut from a mark of 120 - this former point-to-point winner goes on any ground and a clear round should see him go close. Meanwhile Willem had some decent form in France and has shown ability in flashes since arriving on these shores - he certainly has the latent talent to go close and his owner knows a thing or two about racing!
Our other runner, Purple 'N Gold goes in a competitive looking handicap chase at Fontwell. He was a ready winner at Worcester last week - this is a career high mark but he clearly comes here in good order and amateur jockey David Noonan has won on him before and he takes a useful 7lbs off his back.
I see that trainer Stuart Edmunds willl have a go at his staff member who failed to saddle Native Princess with the wither pad meaning jockey Paddy Brennan weighed in 1 1/2 lbs light. It cost the trainer £750 and the horse was disqualified from fourth place. I wouldn't want to be the person responsible!

Liverpool drew 1-1 with Swiss side FC Sion. The fans gave Liverpool manager Brendan Rogers some stick...there is a Merseyside derby this weekend against Everton and it could be his last game in charge if they do not get a result. He has spent a lot of money since his time at the club and there isn't a lot to show for it.

My rugby mates tell me that this Saturday's match between England and Australia is quite important - if England lose they could be out of the World Cup. Looking at the tables, Scotland are top of pool B and England are third in pool A (in which Wales are top). I thought we were supposed to be good at rugby?!

On a more light-hearted note...
Patient: Doctor, Doctor, I feel like a tennis racket.
Doctor: You must be too highly strung!
Patient: Doctor, Doctor, I feel like a pair of socks.
Doctor: Well, I'll be darned!
That will have you all in stitches! Keep smiling...
