Today we have four meetings with flat action from Lingfield and Chelmsford City as well as two jumps fixtures from Sedgefield and Stratford. Stable conditional jockey Kieron Edgar makes the long trip up to Sedgefield for just one ride; Stoneham in the 2.00pm race for Ian Jardine – it is another chance to test the theory…it certainly worked yesterday with our amateur jockey David Noonan riding Potters Legend to victory in the bumper at odds of 8/1. It hasn’t stopped raining down this way over the last few days and the downpours have been heavy at times – the ground will surely change.

The stable has no runners today although we do have entries tomorrow at Uttoxeter so we could be back in business then.

I see that Claire Balding is going to be back in the Channel 4 fold next April to anchor their coverage of the Grand National. She deserted them last year to present the boat race (yes, honestly the boat race!)…I am just amazed that producers think that her return will make that much difference to viewing figures. I thought Nick Luck did a good job last year, although it wouldn’t hurt to get someone a little more colourful involved – I think Claire’s return will just add to the ‘vanilla’ flavouring.

This FIFA enquiry is getting worse. President Sepp Blatter has already admitted that the whole process for our £21 million World Cup bid was fixed. Surely everybody involved needs locking up?

Meanwhile Manchester United were knocked out of the Capital One Cup last night after losing to Middlesborough on penalties. It is a very hard tournament to predict as none of the big Premier League sides ever seem to field a particularly strong side. Having said that Manchester City, Liverpool and Southampton all managed to get a result last night.

Rory McIlroy is trying to rescue his season by winning one of the last three tournaments. He is certainly going to be a busy boy over the coming weeks – he is currently playing in the Turkish Airline Open before travelling to China for their tournament on November 5th. Then it is onto the World Tour Championships in the UAE a fortnight later – playing football and injuring his ankle has completely messed up his season.

A final thought for the day…what is two thirds of 99? The ice cream man’s profit! Keep smiling…
