There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Newmarket and Wolverhampton as well as two National Hunt fixtures from Wetherby and Uttoxeter. David runs Lady Of Longstone (pictured above) at Uttoxeter and our five year old mare is searching for a quick-fire hat-trick following a couple of facile successes at Worcester. She carries a 7lbs penalty this afternoon although if the handicapper could reassess this race she would have to carry another 7lbs. Winning rider Michael Heard is in the saddle once again and takes 7lbs off her back and she looks to have solid prospects once again, although her chances would be further aided if the rain keeps away.
We have had another night of persistent rain in the area so keep an eye on the going - if it is the same story everywhere the ground will certainly be softening all the time. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the ground go heavy at some of the tracks, so if you are having a wager make sure that your selection likes soft ground.
The Breeders Cup two day meeting starts tonight in Keeneland and they have had heavy rain earlier this week on the back of the hurricane that has swept America. The ground will be softer than ideal for the likes of Derby and Arc hero Golden Horn although hopefully they will have drying days today and tomorrow. Quite a few of our jockeys are over there trying to pick up some of the excellent prize money on offer. Coverage starts on Attheraces at 7.30pm...come on Europe!

It is the Mexican Grand Prix this weekend and I see that Lewis Hamilton has been involved in some promotional work by body slamming a Mexican wrestler in the ring. I must say, he did look quite good at it - maybe he is in training to to the same thing to Nico Rosberg. I don't think the two team-mates are the best of friends anymore.

The Rugby World Cup seems to have been going on for ages but there is light at the end of the tunnel as the final takes place tomorrow at 4pm on ITV. As soon as the home nations were put out, the tournament lost much of it's interest as far as I'm concerned...so that was fairly shortly after it started then! The final is between Australia and New Zealand - both sides are quite a long way from home! Fortunately it doesn't clash with Chelsea versus Liverpool which starts at 12.45pm - that looks a good sight more interesting with both of these fallen giants trying to recover.
I see there is betting available for Wayne Rooney to be dropped against Crystal Palace tomorrow. I will upset a few people when I say that I don't think he has been playing very well so far this season...sorry Tony!

What is the difference between origami and grandpa passing wind? One is the art of the fold, the other is the fart of the old! Keep smiling...
