There are three meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps meetings from Leicester and Plumpton supported by an all-weather flat fixture from Wolverhampton. It is hard to believe that the ground on the chase course at Leicester is officially good/firm (good in places) - you wouldn't get a description like that down in these parts given the amount of rain we have had. The stable has one runner today as Bladoun (pictured above) runs in the 2.15pm race at Leicester - it is a competitive handicap hurdle with 13 runners. Bladoun had some fair placed form last season and he looks to have fair claims under Tom Scudamore.
There were no winners for the stable over the weekend with French Champion Hurdle winner Un Temps Pour Tout faring best in second. He looked all over the winner two out but was just outrun up the hill. I wonder if it could be that he wants even softer ground to show his best?
I was watching the action from Cheltenham on Sunday on the television and I must say I was pleased to see Sprinter Sacre return to something like his best. He jumped like a stag and put up a great performance. The crowd at the track certainly gave him a heroes welcome - racing certainly needs it's star and it is good to see this one back in the ascendancy.
There was a bit of a surprise over in Ireland yesterday as Champion Hurlder Faugheen was beaten in the Morgiana Hurdle at Punchestown. Willie Mullins had the first three home, although I would be amazed if he thought Nicholls Canyon would beat Faugheen. I still think Faugheen will improve and win the Champion Hurdle in March for which he is a best priced 15/8 come March. Talking of March, I see that former World Hurdle winner More Of That is a 6/1 chance for the RSA Chase after his success at the track on Friday - if he stays right he would have an outstanding chance.
Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton is going to have to wait a bit longer to win the Brazilian Grand Prix after he finished second at Interlagos yesterday. He finished runner-up to team-mate Nico Rosberg who has now won his last couple of races from pole position since losing the world championship...how does that work?! Why is it that the Mercedes car is so much quicker than anybody else?
There is an important football match for the Irish tonight as they take on Bosnia in the second leg of their Euro qualifier. They drew 1-1 in Zenica on Friday and are 6/4 chances to win tonight...it looks an interesting match and I will be tuning in. Coverage starts at 7.45pm.
Unsurprisingly it is Beatles memorabilia that will make collectors the most money over the coming years. I guess you can buy me love!
