The stable enjoyed a nice winner yesterday afternoon as Champers On Ice won the novices' hurdle at Newbury under Tom Scudamore.  He will need to brush up his jumping a bit as he steps up in class but this was still a nice performance nevertheless with several promising types well beaten in behind and he looks like a most promising individual.  One thing is for sure, I bet there wasn't much champers left after the race!

This afternoon there are five meetings taking place with jumps action from Newbury, Newcastle, Doncaster and Bangor while there is an all-weather flat fixture from Wolverhampton.  The Newbury card looks like a cracker as you would expect from Hennessy day.  David has three runners there today; Balgarry, La Vaticane and Heath Hunter, while Shotavodka makes the long journey up to Newcastle for the Listed handicap chase.  I saw Shotavodka school over six open ditches on Thursday and I have to say he looked very solid.  Our three Newbury runners have all had a run this season and look to have solid place claims in very competitive races.

Looking through the cards today, it is a day packed full of history - races like the Hennessy at Newbury and the Fighting Fifth at Newcastle have been around for as long as I can remember.  The Hennessy has drawn a wide open field of seventeen runners - I will have to sharpen my pin!

The Davis Cup tennis final is finely balanced with Great Britain and Belgium level on one match each.  As expected Andy Murray looks in a different league and won his match in straight sets and the most important match comes today with the doubles.  Great Britain have shortened to 1/5 to win now (I don't really know why), but this match will decide where the cup is going.

The best football match of the weekend would appear to be between Spurs and Chelsea - Tottenham are on a good run, while last season's Premier League champions Chelsea are not looking like the force of old.  I will be having a little treble on Liverpool at 1/2, Crystal Palace at 3/4 and West Ham at 11/10 - that will pay out 9/2 at those prices...you heard it here first!

There was a bumper turnout for Australia's first day-night cricket match in Adelaide as 47,500 people turned out to see the action.  The play stopped at 9.30pm and was played with a pink ball!

I see a council has been mocked for repainting double yellow lines just twelve inches  long in Leicester...sounds as though they have put their foot in it!  Have a nice weekend...
