Alternatif after Winning at Kempton
Today there are three meetings, jumps cards at Fontwell and Uttoxeter plus a flat card at Southwell. David has one runner, Alternatif at Fontwell. He carries top weight in the 3m1f handicap chase at 2.10pm. He has had two runs over fences and was a good third at Cheltenham last time out on good ground. He handles soft and with a clear round of jumping he should not be too far away. Tom Scu rides. Tom Scu made his trip to Musselburgh worthwhile yesterday with a winner on board Tap Night for trainer Lucinda Russell.
There is a picture of Ripon racecourse in the paper under water. Carlisle is scheduled to race on Sunday and it seems to me the racecourse was lucky to miss most of the flooding from what you are hearing about on the news. I think we have been lucky down here in the west country. We seem to have had lots of rain but thankfully no flooding. I cannot imagine what it must be like to get flooded out or even have no power for a few hours.
You will be pleased to hear that David, Gerry Supple and James from the office have made it back safely from London yesterday! They attended the annual Horserace Writers and Photographers Derby Awards and David was actually nominated for the International Trainer award but this was won, as expected, by John Gosden for the exploits of Golden Horn. They had a very enjoyable day and would like to thank Mike Vince for inviting them.
The more boxer Tyson Fury talks the more I am sure he is not quite the full ticket. I see they are trying to get him removed from the BBC Sports Personality if the Year awards. What does it matter as he is not going to win it?
FA President Prince William missed three penalties in a football shoot out against a 13 year old. You should know what his football ability is like as he is an Aston Villa supporter after all! The big match tonight is Wolfsburg versus Man United. A few seasons ago you would have needed someone to keep the score but not anymore. Van Gaal has made them so defensive which is not want the United supporters want and they don't score many goals. Looking at the draw for the FA Cup third round, Watford v Newcastle looks tasty. Exeter, our local team plays Liverpool so at least they will earn a few quid. Spurs v Leicester, Arsenal v Sunderland, Southampton v Crystal Palace, Norwich v Man City so as you can see there are quite a few Premier league clashes.
The sad news is that the funeral of Mr Spencer P Dobson has taken place. He was a famous compiler of crossword puzzles. After a short service he was buried six down and three across!! Have a nice day.
