The stable had a nice winner at the weekend when Gevrey Chambertin bolted up at Lingfield on Saturday.  It had been a while since our grey gelding had put his best foot forward but they say that form is temporary and class is permanent and our former Fixed Brush Hurdle winner looked different class even under top weight of 11-12.  It was certainly good to see him back in the winners' enclosure so let's hope that he can continue in his current vein of form.

This afternoon we have three meetings taking place with jumps action from Ffos Las and Plumpton as well as an all-weather flat fixture from Wolverhampton.  Wolverhampton are the unsurprising winners of the wooden spoon today with their seven race card being worth only £30,000.  David has plenty of interest at Ffos Las this afternoon with four runners, three of which the Racing Post have as forecast favourites and the other second favourite.  We run Baraka de Thaix, Saint John Henry, Heath Hunter and newcomer Westbrooke Warrior.  The first three I have mentioned will all love the ground and have big chances, while the bumper horse will find everything a new experience, the travelling, the ground, the noise, having horses alongside - the experience really does them the world of good.  Tom Scudamore is aboard all four of our runners.

I see that it it owner Caroline Tisdall's birthday today.  As I am a gentleman I will not give away her age.  I have also dropped the Professor bit as I consider her a personal friend...many happy returns Caroline.

What did we learn over the weekend?  Manchester United would appear to have more problems that we first thought.  Furthermore, the way he talks I am not sure their manager would inspire anybody.  Spurs lost at home to Newcastle and that tells you all you need to know about their prospects of winning the Premier League and much the same can be said about Liverpool.  My Gooner mates have been on at me again, so as far as I am concerned anybody for the Premier League with the exception of Arsenal!  Aston Villa are going down, Sunderland are going down and probably Norwich - sadly Arsenal will probably stay up!

There was more action between rounds than there was during the fight at the weekend between Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte (and the entire fight between Fury and Klitschko!).  The referee had to step in after the pair continued fighting after the bell had rung to signal the end of the first round and he received a bloodied nose for his troubles!

At the British Rail Tennis Championships this week a Sunday engine driver was forced to retire from the mixed doubles after a low ball in the Midland region left his services severely disrupted!
