Today there are three meetings taking place with jumps action from Lingfield supported by two all-weather cards from Chelmsford City and Wolverhampton.  The stable's horses ran okay at the weekend without getting their heads in front.  The best of them was What A Moment at Fakenham yesterday as he came within a neck of winning the maiden hurdle.  Unfortunately he made a mistake at the last which I think was the difference between winning and losing but jumping is the name of the game.  Even so, I don't think it will be very long before he is winning again.  Watching the action from the weekend, the most impressive winner was Thistlecrack as he routed the Long Walk field at Ascot on Saturday - it would seem that Tom Scudamore is a better judge than I thought!  It looks as though it is going to take a very good stayer to beat him come the Festival in March.

I was deeply saddened to read of the death of Times racing correspondent Alan Lee at the age of just 61.  Alan was one of those rare people - a journalist who nobody had a bad word to say about.  Thoughts are with his family at this time.

Could somebody please explain to me what Eddie Izzard was doing there?  He was dressed up in the most ridiculous pair of high heeled shoes and it looked as though he was trying to imitate Clare Balding.  Andy Murray was the winner of the award on the back of his "team" success in the Davis Cup...probably the correct result on this occasion, better still I had a little wager on the outcome!

I see that David wants Jose Mourinho to come round to join him for Christmas.  The "Special One" would probably bring around a chicken rather than a turkey!  Anyway it looks as if he will be travelling north to Manchester to join United.  United's current manager Van Gaal would appear to be absolutely clueless as they had no idea against Norwich.

Talking of football, what has happened to Liverpool?  They were trounced 3-0 by Watford and afterwards the cameras cut to the Liverpool dressing room where there was an advert of the players using Nivea cream for men.  They must have managed to get it on the ball as it was clearly too slippery for them!

There is a great game to look forward to tonight between Arsenal and Manchester City - there should be plenty of goals as both defences look a bit dodgy.  What about Real Madrid winning 10-2 at the weekend, including four great goals from Gareth Bale.

One of the weathermen has just become a father for the first time.  The baby is said to be fine, although occasional drizzle is predicted later in the day.
