Well, the big day is here and the first thing I should do is wish everybody a very happy Christmas!  I hope you all have a wonderful day, get spoiled rotten and have a hearty Christmas dinner.  Spare a thought for the jockeys that have to 'do light' on Boxing Day - they may have a bit of turkey today although I would imagine they will be missing all the trimmings.  Unsurprisingly there is no racing action today on these shores although amazingly the French carry on throughout and there is a jumps meeting from Pau.

David will still be in early to check over all the horses, make sure they are all fed and watered and exercised as necessary.  A skeleton staff will also be on hand to assist and make sure there is minimal interruption to the usual routine over the holiday period.

There was some early festive cheer when the lads were all treated to a lovely breakfast of freshly made sausage rolls, bacon baps and mince pies yesterday in our hostel.  They were joined by Gordon & Sue (owners of Lady Of Longstone and Houston Dynimo) who were kind enough to bring in a beautiful cooked turkey and stuffing which were made into amazing lunchtime baps for the stable staff.  With all this food going around I reckon the horses are going to be carrying a few pounds overweight on the gallops!

There is some exciting racing to look forward to tomorrow with eight cards, of which seven take place over the sticks.  David runs Ballynagour in what looks like a vintage renewal of the King George at Kempton and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him outrun his odds under Tom Scu.  Unique de Cotte is our other runner on the card as he makes his chasing debut, while Herbert Park is on duty for the yard at Wincanton and he will be ridden by Conor O'Farrell.

Anyway, once again a merry Christmas and a happy New Year to all of our followers - like me I am sure you cannot wait to get the racing action back underway tomorrow!
