Ballynagour runs in King George
Today we have 7 meetings, there were 8 but unfortunately Wetherby has been abandoned due to the elements. The six remaining jumps cards are at Kempton, Wincanton, Fontwell, Market Rasen, Huntingdon and Sedgefield plus a flat card at Wolverhampton. David has two runners at Kempton, Unique De Cotte and Ballynagour and also Herbert Park at Wincanton. It is a cracking card at Kempton with the King George and Christmas hurdle. Faugheen is big odds on for the Christmas hurdle, mind you he did get beaten last time out. They say he needed the run, we will see. The King George has Don Cossack as favourite, so both big prizes could go back to Ireland. The King George is a mouth watering prospect and so lets just hope the race lives up to the hype. Ballynagour is the outsider of the field and while he should probably not be as big a price as he is, he will have run a great race if he can get into the first six. We have also just heard the Chepstow has unfortunately been abandoned on Sunday. The good card with the Welsh National as it's feature will hopefully be re-scheduled so we will keep you posted with news of this.
Kieron Edgar was riding at two meetings, driving from Huntingdon to Wetherby but now with the latter being abandoned if you are out on the roads you will not have to watch out in the outside lane of the A1!
If you buy today's Racing Post, there are quite a few yards advertising for stable staff including John Gosden. You would think that he would have no trouble recruiting staff but like all trainers there is a shortage of people in the industry at the moment.
The early football kick-off today is Stoke versus Man United at 12.45pm. I wonder if Van Gaal had a good Christmas?! It could be his last one in Manchester! I am going for Liverpool to beat Leicester at 19/20, and Swansea at 21/20 to beat West Brom. Surely Leicester have got to have a bad spell sooner or later?!
In the cricket, South Africa v England starts at 8am on Sky Sports. South Africa are currently the top ranked team in the world but I think we could turn them over. The pitches out there should suit our bowling attack even without Jimmy Anderson. Let's just hope the rain stays away.
Mr Wally Turdham has again won the most amorous milkman of the year award. Apparently he is so popular with his lady customers that he has started leaving notes on their door steps saying 'None today thank you'!
