With the early abandonment of Ludlow this afternoon we are left with three meetings to look forward to; a jumps meeting from Wincanton (which is also subject to an early morning inspection) and two all-weather flat cards from Southwell and Chelmsford City. If the meeting gets the thumbs up David will have four runners at Wincanton; Brook, Pilgrims Bay, Kalifourchon and Junior Package, while he also has a rare runner on the flat at Southwell as last time out winner Honeymoon Cocktail (pictured above) bids to follow-up in the 1m4f handicap under apprentice jockey Rob Hornby. He is forecast favourite so hopefully there will be a winner or two this afternoon.
Temperatures reached -9°c yesterday in Lambourn and there is a picture in today's Post of the gallops there yesterday - it certainly looked chilly! As I said yesterday though, none of the horses at Pond House missed any work due to our great all-weather gallop and team of ground staff.
Could somebody please explain to me how former cyclist Victoria Pendleton is only a 10/1 chance to win the Foxhunters at Cheltenham in March aboard Pacha de Polder? I know that it is a decent horse in the context of the race, but Victoria has only completed one race thus far. As far as I am concerned the bookies are taking the micky as she should be that sort of price to get round.
Talking of the greedy bookmakers, I see that they have priced up Irish champion trainer Willie Mullins at 11/8 to train 9 or more winners at the Cheltenham Festival. I am sure he will have plenty of winners although he will do well to beat last season's incredible tally of 8 and I will pass on those cramped prices.

I had another good evening with my football punting as my two bets on the FA Cup replays came to fruition. Spurs beat Leicester 2-0 and Liverpool Reserves beat Exeter City 3-0 at Anfield.
The next cricket Test between South Africa and England starts tomorrow morning at 8.30am and reports suggest that the pitch at Centurion is going to be quick so England's pace attack should certainly do well against the home side. There isn't an awful lot to play for with England having already won the series although they could be worth an interest at prices as big as 6/4.
It is difficult to prove that any of the tennis matches have been fixed, although it will probably come out one day when a player decides to retire and sell their story for another wad of cash!

Why was the cross-eyed teacher sacked? She couldn't control her pupils! Keep smiling...
