Sadly Fontwell was abandoned yesterday morning owing to some standing water on the track so the rules action is looking a bit thin on the ground with just an all-weather flat card fro Chelmsford City to look forward to on these shores. If you are after a bit of jumping action the amateurs carry the baton near the yard with the annual meeting at Chipley Park between Wellington and Milverton - they normally have a good turnout there while there are often a few familiar faces from the stable about (normally around the beer tent!).
Over in Ireland there is a cracking card from Leopardstown with plenty of prize money up for grabs and the big race of the day is the Irish Champion Hurdle which features Faugheen and stablemates Nichols Canyon and Arctic Fire. They make up three of the five runners - it must be nice to have so many good horses in the stable, although it does mean that they must take each other on from time to time.
There is just over seven weeks left to go until the Cheltenham Festival all kicks off and there are still a lot of trainers looking for their firs winner at the meeting. I am thinking of the likes of Peter Bowen, Dan Skelton, Charlie Longsdon and John Ferguson. With Ferguson packing up training at the end of the season this will be his last chance to taste glory on the big stage.
How could I forget to mention that David's partner Leanne popped out another lid in the week?! Their third child, a healthy little girl who weighed in at a healthy 8lbs 8oz is called Martha Charlotte Pipe. It just so happens that Martin's private number plate is MCP1 so no prizes where that will be going when Martha grows up! Jack will have two little sisters, Sophie and Martha to look after him!

Arsenal take on Chelsea at 4.00pm this afternoon. The 11/10 available about Arsenal looks like a decent bet to me with Chelsea still looking to be all over the place. That will upset David who is a Chelsea fan!
