There is a busy day ahead with five meetings taking place with jumps cards from Newbury, Fontwell and Wetherby as well as flat cards from Lingfield and Wolverhampton.  David has one runner this afternoon; Iniciar who competes in the 2.05pm race at Wetherby.  Our six year old was a ready winner last time out at Carlisle on good/soft ground and he now drops back into novice company.  He carries a 6lbs penalty for that success although he is partnered by David Noonan who claims a handy 3lbs off his back.  A similar level of form will see him go close.

Meanwhile, Obistar fared best of our runners yesterday by finishing second at Ffos Las.  He was trying to give 3lbs to the winner and was not beaten at all far and this was another step in the right direction on his second start back from an absence.

England play the West Indies in the final of the T20 World Cup.  I was going to say that that will be a slog-fest, although all of the T20 matches are a slog-fest!  England have shortened into 21/10 to win and I had a few quid on a bigger odds yesterday.  If we can get Chris Gayle out cheaply, England really ought to win.

I see that the FA have decided to extend Roy Hodgson's contract as England manager until he is 90.  They feel that by then, some of his ideas could have come back into fashion.  What day is it today?!

I was saddened to see that wonderful comedian Ronnie Corbett passed away yesterday aged 85.  I once played golf with Ronnie at my local golf club, Churston.  All of the entertainers that used to perform in the shows at the Princess Theatre in Torquay would come down to play a round at the golf course.  I still remember Ronnie giving a talk in the clubhouse and saying that he would never follow Eric Sykes around again as he kept falling over his cigar butts!  He was a naturally funny man and a real icon of British comedy.

There are more good football matches to look forward to this weekend as Liverpool take on Spurs on Saturday at 5.30pm  If Spurs are to have any chance of winning the Premier League, they must win at places like Anfield.  There are some competitive matches at the other end of the division with Sunderland versus West Brom and Norwich versus Newcastle.

In case you hadn't already noticed it is April Fools Day today and I used to have to be on my guard as Martin would always be trying to catch me out.
