There are five meetings this afternoon and with the end of the jumps campaign, all five fixtures are on the level. The action comes from Ayr, Chelmsford City, Southwell, Windsor and Wolverhampton. It was a great final day of the season at Sandown on Saturday and there were two standout performances - Menorah who gave jockey Richard Johnson a winning ride on the day he was finally crowned champion jockey and of course, Sprinter Sacre...what a comeback the latter has made this season to once again be the king of the two milers.

Dynaste ran a solid race in the Bet365 Gold Cup under his welter burden - he travelled like the class horse of the race for much of the way and only gave best between the last two.  Meanwhile Dell' Arca finished a close fourth in the concluding handicap hurdle and it would appear that he appreciated this better ground.

It all starts again on Wednesday with a Cheltenham evening meeting, although it is a card of hunter chases...all the scores go back to zero.  I must admit, I did prefer the old system whereby there was a couple of months break between seasons - it meant there was a clear start and finish point to each season and gave staff and horses alike a good rest.  Nowadays there is only a week without jumping here and there making for a rather stop-start feel to it all.

Many happy returns to one of our owners, Kenny Alexander who is a very young looking 47 today.  Happy birthday Kenny, we hope you have a great day.

Brighton had better be on their guard as they are next in line to take on top of the table Leicester.  Leicester enjoyed their biggest win of the season at the weekend when they beat Swansea 4-0...and that was without their suspended leading scorer Jamie Vardy.  At the other end of the table Sunderland earned a good point at home to Arsenal, while Crystal Palace beat Watford in their FA Cup semi-final - I nearly forgot that one!  Meanwhile I hope that a few of you followed me in and backed Manchester United for the other semi-final and the Cup outright - they are now a best priced 2/5...but you will already be on!

I visited the offices of the RSPCA yesterday and was shocked at just how small they were...you couldn't swing a cat in there!
