Four Aintree Runners

We have five meetings this afternoon with flat action from York, Newbury, Newmarket and Hamilton as well as a jumps card from Aintree.  David runs Bella, Skylander, Kie and Ballywilliam at Aintree and stable jockey Tom Scudamore is aboard them all.  Bella has been exceptionally well placed by David to pick up £42,000 in prize money but she would need a personal best today to figure under 11-9.  Skylander is still 7lbs above his last winning mark but he will go on the ground and looks to hold place claims.  Kie has won plenty of races down the years and he should be spot-on after his recent run at Exeter although he is handicapped up to his very best.  Meanwhile, Ballywilliam (pictured above) won on heavy ground last month at Uttoxeter and will love this trip and he looks to have a good chance.

There were some interesting goings-on at Salisbury in the claimer yesterday when the winner trained by David Evans was claimed for £6,000 by Andrew Reid, while the second was claimed by David Evans for £4,000.  Personally I think the winner was the better of the two claims even if it did cost £2,000 more.

Newly crowned champion jockey Richard Johnson rode a treble at Perht yesterday, mind you they were all favourites.  He is setting a strong pace in the jockeys championship.

I did say that I thought Roberto Martinez's days at Everton were numbered, although I did think that it would take more than just one day for him to get the sack.  Meanwhile, Newcastle who did get the drop are desperately trying to get Rafa Benitez to stay...it's a funny old game!

There was a great round from Justin Rose in the Players' Championship golf as he opened with a score of 65.  World number one Jason Day later equalled the course record with a round of 63.  If any of you have ever seen the course, you will know that 63 is a ridiculously low score.

Time to get on my soap box once again...what is the point of fining fly-tippers £400 on the spot?  The people that do it aren't going to give their details up easily.  Personally I would lock them up - it's a disgusting thing to do.
