I see that David was a busy chap yesterday afternoon.  Not only did Perspicace (pictured above) win at Worcester yesterday afternoon, he was also the successful bidder for the winner of the claimer, while he was also adding to the string with a further purchase from the Doncaster Sales.  Perspicace certainly put up a good performance and could be called the winner from some way out despite the burden of 11-12 in the 2m4f handicap hurdle.  He was running from a mark 5lbs lower than in future handicaps, although Mr Nasty is likely to put him by more than just that now!  Meanwhile, David bought Castlemorris King for £10,000 after he was the impressive winner of the claiming hurdle and it looks as though the quicker ground helped bring this 122 rated performer back to form.  He is obviously fit and ready to go and he is also a novice chaser to boot so I am sure David will be finding a suitable opportunity for him soon - if you would be interested in being his new owner, please get in touch with our office.

There is a busy day ahead with no less than six meetings taking today with flat action from Goodwood, Carlisle, Wolverhampton, Haydock and Catterick while there is a single jumps fixture from Stratford.  Somehow Wolverhampton manage to get away with just £30,000 in prize money across their entire seven race card and Catterick fair little better with just an extra £1,000 on top of that.

If you are going to Stratford this evening do make sure that you are wearing your funny clothes.  It is a mixed hunter chase meeting with a couple of handicap hurdles thrown in for good measure.  Conditional jockey David Noonan is aboard the favourite in teh 8.50pm race and even with 12-4 less David's 3lbs claim, he look like the one to beat again.

I see that it is Jonothan Lower's 49th birthday today.  Jonothan rode a lot of winners for Martin in the early days and was champion conditional jockey.  Furthermore, he was invaluable for many years as the school master - teaching all the youngsters how to jump.  Many happy returns Jon - we hope you have a great day.

I cannot believe that Muirfield have banned lady members of their golf club - are we going back to the dark ages or something?  Ladies can make great caddies!  I am only joking of course, they say that the ladies are too slow.  I cannot believe what I am hearing.

I won't go too far on the subject, but a quick story...I was once playing a round with a lady member (that doesn't sound good does it?!) and she hit her ball towards another group of players.  When I asked her why she did not shout "Fore!" she told me that she had forgotten what the number was!  That is a true story.

There was a sad story in the paper about former England footballer Paul Gascoigne.  He was refused a bottle of gin from a shop the other day and then some idiot went and bought it for him anyway.  He has been battling alcoholism for 12 years now and looks a real mess...a sad sight indeed.

My wife is like the Mona Lisa.  No, she is not beautiful with a mysterious smile, she is as flat as a canvass and ought to be in a museum!  I hope Mrs Barnes doesn't read this...
