There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with flat action from Wolverhampton and Wetherby and jumping from Hexham and Southwell.  David has no runners today so stable jockey Tom Scudamore heads to Southwell for four rides and they are all for different trainers.  It would be hard to pick out a good thing among them as the shortest price among them is Eye Of The Tiger and the Post make him a 10/1 chance.  Meanwhile David Noonan travels all the way up to Hexham for just one ride - I hope it is worth it or it will be a long journey back.

Talking of David Noonan, I see that our conditional jockey is on the hot list with a 27% strike rate over the past fortnight.  That is currently better than champion jockey Richard Johnson!  David is certainly fast carving out a name for himself.

I wonder how many bookmakers paid out on the Killarney result last week?  The winner Abraham carried 8lbs less than he should have done...I bet all those winning punters will give them their money back?  How on earth could the clerk of the scales miss such a glaring discrepancy?  With the victor scoring by only a length, 8lbs would certainly have affected the result.

The big players come out to play in the tennis at the French Open today; Novak Djokovic, Rafa Nadal, Andy Murray and Serena Williams are all on court.  Djokovic can be backed at 17/20 for outright victory and Williams is 9/4 - I think Djokovic will win but while Williams hits the ball very hard, I am not convinced she is always sure where it is going to go.  Even so, she is still by far the most likely winner.

So, the secret is out; Louis Van Gaal has been given the sack by Manchester United.  He says he has left Jose Mourinho with a great side of players...I must be watching the wrong United team.  They need at least six new starters and I'm sure that Mourinho will be hoping for the same couple of hundred million spending money that his predecessor was given.

Warwickshire bowler Chris Woakes took a career best 9-36 against Durham in their county championship game.  They are the best Warwickshire figures in over 50 years and comes just after Woakes had received his England call-up.  It is just a shame that it will be largely ignored as fans do not seem to be interested in these games anymore - three or four days is too long to wait for a result.

A final thought for the day...A good wife will always forgive her husband when she is wrong!
