It was a productive day at the Arqana sales at Deauville yesterday with David picking up no less than six horses including a nice filly Maggie du Ma who won a couple of her starts over hurdles at Enghien and Auteuil and there are lots of opportunities for fillies over here these days.  He also picked up an exciting four year old called King's Socks who was a Listed winner in France so hopefully you will be hearing a lot more of those over the coming months.  I don't know if they all have owners, but get in touch if you fancy one!

Today we have six meetings, all on the flat at Sandown, Haydock, Leicester, Beverley, Carlisle and Nottingham.  The man that does the fixture list has had another bad day with no jumps cards scheduled for a Saturday.  The big race of the day is the Coral Eclipse over 1m2f at Sandown at 3.45pm - it is a Group One with just shy of £300,000 to the winner and Aidan O'Brien saddles the favourite The Gurkha.  He goes on any ground and looks a worthy favourite to me.

What a performance from Wales as they beat Belgium 3-1 last night to reach their first ever semi-final.  I was asking my family if I had any Welsh relations but unfortunately I can't claim that one!  How good is their boss Chris Coleman?  You could see on the touch line how much it meant to him.  Our boss hardly moved during the entire tournament (which admittedly wasn't very long), except to put his head in his hands!  The fighting spirit the Welsh lads showed was really brilliant and something that the England side were sadly lacking and I am sure that the manager is a big part of that.

There could be a shock at Wimbledon today as Novak Djokovic is two sets down to American Sam Querqey.  I had to laugh when a member of the crowd shouted "Play it again Sam!".It could have been all over yesterday but the rain came in time to save Djokovic's skin, at least for now...it should certainly make for exciting viewing.

I see that former world number one Tiger Woods has pulled out of the Open.  Not exactly surprising given that he hardly seems to play any golf these days.  Meanwhile Rory McIlroy would be better off using a fishing rod at present as he found water three times in two days.  I think I would tell him to sling his hook!
