There is a busy day of racing ahead with no less than six meetings taking place.  The bad news for fans of the jumps is that they are all on the flat with action coming from Doncaster, Goodwood, Hamilton, Lingfield, Newmarket and Thirsk.  There are some tricky looking races at Goodwood this afternoon with the Stewards Cup and it's consolation race - both twenty eight runner sprint handicaps, talk about a commentator's nightmare.  Having said that, I did say that Franklin D was a good thing in the nineteen runner Betfred Mile and he duly obliged...albeit just!  According to bookmakers he was the best backed horse of the year, although we are only collecting thanks to a masterful ride from Ryan Moore.

I quite like the look of Gamesome today in the 2.00pm at Goodwood; it is the consolation race and he can be backed at odds of around 12/1.  Meanwhile the Group One Champion Stakes at 3.10pm is worth over £340,000 to the winner but has only attracted five runners!  The O'Brien filly Minding is a 2/7 chance and she will take the world of beating.  It is just a shame that someone stumps up so much cash and then gets such a poorly contested race.

There is a jumps card from Market Rasen tomorrow afternoon but David does not have any runners which means that the Pond House team are now on their enforced summer break as the next National Hunt fixture is not until Monday 8th August at Stratford.  Of course, it isn't a real break - there is still plenty to do around the stables and the horses still have to be fed and exercised.  Eight days without jump racing - what am I going to do?!

I see that Rory McIlroy missed the cut for the USPGA championships...what has gone wrong with Rory?  He still hits the ball a long way and to me it just looks like his putting could do with a bit of work.  Great players always come back so let's hope it is the same of McIlroy.

What about German Stephan Jaeger who shot an incredible round of 58 in the Ellie Mae Classic in California - his twelve under par round is the lowest ever in a US PGA tournament.

The big fight tonight is between Carl Frampton and Santa Cruz and is live on Boxing Nation.  Both have perfect records so something has to give and promises to be a real dust-up.

With the Olympics now only days away a plane full of 34 horses flew out to Rio - let's hope they all behaved and didn't play up.  At least they shouldn't get mugged when they touch down!

Did you hear about the hapless burglar who managed to get trapped in a window? He was obviously framed!
