Day five of our summer jumps sabbatical and there are five flat meetings taking place this afternoon.  The action comes from Musselburgh, Brighton, Wolverhampton, Newmarket and Haydock.  Despite the plenty of fixtures it hasn't stopped some of our domestic trainers seeking opportunities abroad - yesterday it was Jamie Osborne and Andrew Balding travelling to Ovrevoll, now trainer Charlie Hills tries his luck in Spain.  He will run one in the 1m3f race at San Sebatian on Monday, it is worth over £30,000 to the winner and it should be warm and sunny.  Sounds good to me.

Meanwhile Stan Moore runs five at Deauville today and that is a nice place to go - I went out there for the sales and I would recommend it to anyone.  It is a nice town on the north coast of France, there are some great hotels especially if you have won the lottery!  The only trouble with the place is that it is very pricey.

The cricket between England and Pakistan is getting exciting.  Fancy getting out to the last ball of the day when you are on 139 - well, that is what happened to Azhar Ali when he was caught by Cook off of a good ball from Woakes.  Jimmy Anderson was warned by the umpire for running on the danger area of the pitch.  He did get a bit stroppy with the umpires, but at least has apologised subsequently.

My mate went to the West Ham match last night and saw them beat NK Domzale 3-0.  He said that he had a problem seeing the match as he was so far from the pitch and would consider buying binoculars if he went again.  At the old ground, Upton Park you were so close to the pitch it was like you were a part of the team.

I wonder why Nike will stop making golf clubs?  They are big investors in the sport as they sponsor Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods.  I would imagine that there will be some big money offers made by their competitors although Woods has not played for ages and McIlroy has not played well for quite a while.

Thought for the day...it's a shame that 99.9% of politicians give the rest a bad name.
