Sporting Feast

There are six meetings today, five flat cards at Newbury, Ripon, Newmarket, Doncaster and Lingfield plus a jumps card at Market Rasen.  David does not have any runners but Tom Scu goes to Market Rasen for one ride in the last race.  All I can say about that is good luck!  It looks a cracking card at Newbury with a couple of Group races.  Richard Dennis who works in the yard is 52 today.  I have never seen anyone guard a Racing Post so carefully, I don't think anyone is ever allowed to look at his paper he guards it so closely, it's top secret!

It is amazing some of the things you learn watching the TV.  I didn't realise that Mick Channon's former handicapper called Summon Up the Blood was part of the Brazilian eventing team in Rio.  The horse won a handicap back in 2008!  It is good when these horses go on to do other things and this at such a high level which is remarkable!  He did not finish in the medals but it is just fantastic that he got there.

How many catches did England drop in the Test match against Pakistan?!  In the end Pakistan made us play and they are in front.  My cricket man tells me we have put down 14 catches, mind you he does lead a sad life counting dropped catches!

Everything seems to be coming around so quickly, it is the start of the Premiership football season today.  There looks to be some interesting matches.  I particularly like Crystal Palace at 21/20 to beat West Bromich Albion and Southampton 5/6 to beat Watford.  The big game for me is Everton v Tottenham as neither have got the best defence so there should be some goals!  The early kick off is Hull versus Leicester at 12.30.

I had an up and down night on the settee watching the TV last night - I am talking about the trampolining!  I did not know that it was even in the Olympics but it was great to get our first ever medal in the event.  I cannot wait for rock climbing in the next Olympics!
