Two Runners At Stratford

There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with action from Lingfield, Catterick, Musselburgh and Kempton while there is a jumps card from Stratford.  David runs two at Stratford; Thunder Pass in the 5.20pm race a 2m2 1/2f maiden hurdle.  He was a useful performer on the flat but would need to improve on his hurdles form so far to figure here and he is a 12/1 chance.  Meanwhile Purple 'N' Gold contests the 2m3 1/2f handicap chase - he doesn't know how to run a bad race and he is forecast favourite so another big run is expected.

I am excited by the prospect of racing returning to Hereford in October for the first time in four years.  I can remember David riding his first winner under rules there aboard Passed Pawn - that was a bit longer ago than four years!  Indeed, it was 14 years ago on Tuesday just gone - the year was 1992 and David went on to complete a double aboard Highland Spirit.  Those horses must have had a couple of stone in hand!  Only joking David...

I watched the bumper at Southwell yesterday which was a bit surreal as only two runners went to post.  The outsider of the pair was relatively well-backed and duly bolted up by 47 lengths - I love it when punters nick a few quid off the bookies.

The cricket starts today between England and Pakistan on Sky Sports 2 at 2pm.  Both sides seem a bit unpredictable and England are as short as 1/5 to win - I am not sure they are that much better than the visitors so I think a watching brief is the order of the day.  I would rather invest my money on the football and have a little double on Bournemouth to beat Morecombe at 4/9 and Burnley at 4/5.

I see that John Terry has declined the offer to return to the national side at the age of 35.  It just shows how bad our defenders must be for him even to have been asked!  I don't envy 'Big Sam's' task!
