Today there are five meetings taking place with flat action from Goodwood, Beverley, Newmarket, Windsor and Redcar while there is a jumps card from Cartmel.  David has four runners at Cartmel over the Bank Holiday meeting - Port Navas (pictured above) makes his seasonal debut today in the 2.15pm race, while he has three runners on Monday.  Port Navas is a 10/1 chance according to the Racing Post having finished fourth at Exeter last time over a much longer trip.  He would need to improve on what he has shown so far to figure.  Cartmel is a great track to visit, although probably not the easiest to get into on a Bank Holiday.  If you are thinking of going, make sure that you give yourself plenty of time

What about flat jockey William Carson putting up 3lbs overweight aboard Red Rose Riot at Ffos Las yesterday?  Fortunately for him he still won anyway, although I am sure it will not have escaped the notice of the handicapper.  I remember a certain trainer going absolutely potty about a top American jockey putting up 1lb overweight and not telling him...I wonder if he had his 'cash' on?!

Many happy returns to Joey Ramsden, champion trainer in Western Cape.  He always pops in to see Martin when he is in the area, meanwhile his sister Emma is doing very well presenting the racing on television.

I must be honest, I thought that Hull were going to be relegated from the Premier League this season but they are third at present with a couple of wins under their belt already.  I don't think they are this season's Leicester City but we will know more after this evening when they face Manchester United on BT Sport at 5.30pm.  The bookies make Hull 15/2 chances which seems quite a big price about a home team.   I will risk a cheeky little double on Crystal Palace at 7/5 and Bradford at 5/6 to give me an interest.

I am told that if you look around the ground at Lords today you might see a strange face.  I mean that in the cricket sense of course as Martin has gone up to see the One Day International between England and Pakistan.

What about rookie NFL star Ezekiel Elliott who appeared on video visiting a marijuana shop before the Dallas pre-season loss to Seattle?  What a dope!  As if the Cowboys don't have enough problems already with suspensions and injuries.
