There are just three meetings taking place this afternoon with three flat meetings coming from Goodwood, Beverley and Yarmouth - hard luck I'm afraid if you are a fan of the jumps on a Bank Holiday weekend.  Still we will have some runners at Cartmel tomorrow so it is not all doom and gloom!  The ground at Goodwood and Yarmouth this afternoon is good/firm while Beverley have clearly had a bit more of the wet stuff as their official going is good/soft.  Let's hope the ground doesn't get too quick as I would imagine there will be a whole host of non-runners.

What about Malton based trainer Brian Ellison competing in the North Run on 10th September?  It is from over thirteen miles from Newcastle to Gateshead - I have to be honest, I never thought of him as a runner.  His horses certainly look a lot fitter than he does!  Anyway, very best of luck Brian.

I see that Jane Chapple-Hyam is on her travels with all-weather specialist Solar Deity who goes to South Korea for a £750,000 mile event on their artificial sand based track.  He leaves for Seoul on Thursday and is the second top-rated horse in the race - Daryll Holland will ride and it will be interesting to see how he fares.

I reckon I could need a calculator to keep the score in the Manchester City versus West Ham match at 4pm.  City have looked good while my beloved Hammers have looked awful - I don't see this ending well.  West Brom host Middlesbrough at 1.30pm and I will have a bit of the 13/8 about the home side.

Wimbledon and Olympic champion Andy Murray is 2/1 second favourite to add the US Open which starts tomorrow.  I have backed Murray to land the Sports Personality of the Year award and personally I think that is a better bet.

It would appear that organisers are expecting trouble at the Belgian Grand Prix this afternoon as the army have been called in to help safeguard the race.  I remember in 2013 Greenpeace demonstrators scaled the grandstands in protest to race sponsors Shell.  It was never like that back in my day...my dad always used to say that to me!
