There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with three flat fixtures from Beverley, Lingfield and Ffos Las while there is a jumps card from Warwick. Typically the best card in terms of prize money is in Ireland where the Ballinrobe card has over £100,000 up for grabs. David has two runners at Warwick; Tobacco Road and For 'N' Against. Tobacco Road goes in the novices' hurdle for which he is around the 12/1 mark - he hasn't really translated his flat form to hurdles yet and would need to improve to figure on what he has shown thus far. Meanwhile, For 'N' Against has been in good form this term, winning twice and he reverts to hurdles for this 3m2f handicap from a slightly lower rating than his chase mark. He has sound place claims if he reverts his ability back to the smaller obstacles.
The Heritage Centre at Newmarket held an Open Day over the weekend and I see that David's Ryanair, Totesport Bowl and Paddy Power winner (to name but a few!) Our Vic was the star turn. Now an 18 year old, he is still looking remarkably well and I can still vividly remember him edging out Kauto Star in a thrilling finish to the aforementioned Totesport Bowl at Aintree. David has a picture of him in this week's blog so do take a look.
I see that Alistair Down agrees with me that Matt Chapman will be an asset to the new ITV racing team, "although in order to contain his high octane enthusiasm he will either need a director with the clout to guide him or wiring up to the mains". Exactly what I said, but just put into English!
The flat jockeys' championship remains very close and despite Jim Crowley remaining one in front of Silvestre de Sousa (and we will take the credit with Impulsive American!), the Brazilian is a 4/7 chance - that seems short enough to me when Crowley is riding everywhere in search of winners. Today he has eight rides against de Sousa's four.

I can only see trouble for Jose Mourinho at Manchester United. If you start bad mouthing your players in public you will lose their support...just look what happened at Chelsea. Talking of football, I can't believe that Rangers have suspended Joey Barton for three weeks...he always seemed an honest sort of player who didn't like to upset anyone, you only have to look at his career to see that!
If you knew the teams for tonight's EFL Cup you could be tempted to back Bournemouth at 13/20, Everton at 4/7 and Newcastle at 3/4...the trouble is that many of the bigger sides play their youngsters and reserves so you need to see their squads before having a wager.

Thought for the day...a fool and his money are never around when you need them!
