It is another day of all flat action with four fixtures taking place from Salisbury, Windsor, Yarmouth and Chelmsford City.  Unfortunately it wasn't the best of weekends as I did my money not once but twice on the Cesarewitch at Newmarket on Saturday.  I backed both Ennistown and Starchitect and they finished alongside each other.  The winner, Sweet Selection (who was 17lbs well-in at the weights) was a well-backed 7/1 chance and certainly looked to have a few pounds in hand.

There was another poor performance from England's football team who only managed to scramble a 2-0 win against Malta over the weekend.  They looked very poor in a match they should have won convincingly in their sleep.  Not one of the current squad would have made it into the side that won the World Cup in 1966.  I still don't understand why we are persevering with Wayne Rooney, he is passed his sell by date, even Alan Shearer is calling on Wayne Rooney to announce time on his international career.  Things will certainly be tougher when they play Slovenia away tomorrow night at 7.45pm on ITV, even though that is another match they should win.

I see that Rangers are going to offer Joey Barton a £2 million pay-off if they cannot find grounds to sack him.  It must be the only job in the world where you get sacked and make a small fortune.  Mind you, Sam Allardyce was only offered £1 million so I bet he is feeling hard done by!

Things are looking bleak for Lewis Hamilton's world championship aspirations after he blew the start at Suzuka yesterday and came home third behind team-mate Nico Rosberg and teenager Max Verstappen.  Rosberg can now afford to finish runner-up to Hamilton in each of the last four races and still be crowned world champion for the first time.  Given the supremacy of his Mercedes car, it should be a foregone conclusion providing his car remains reliable.

There was a great finish to the European Masters Snooker Final last night as Judd Trump defeated Ronnie O'Sullivan 9-8 having trailed 8-6.  Trump said that O'Sullivan was not playing well and still should have won - that tells you how good he is.
