Today there are just three meetings, flat cards at Leicester and Redcar plus a jumps card at Ayr.  Tom Scu goes to Ayr for two rides, a 50/1 and 14/1 chance in the Post.  Dan Skelton has the favourite in the first two races and they look good things, Spiritofthegames and Ckalco Des Loges.  Yesterday at Aintree What a Moment finished second on his chasing debut and he was only beaten half a length.  They were 15 lengths clear of the third.  It was a nice run and he will probably go up a few pounds but it was a good start to his chasing career.

There were only 28 runners on the whole Wincanton card yesterday, the problem being the good to firm ground.  It is a long season and trainers do not want to risk their horses on this type of ground.  A couple of the races only had four runners in them so if you just got round you picked up some prize money.  Mind you, in one of those races only two finished out of the four that set off!  It is a shame that Wincanton cannot do any watering.

It is Wayne Rooney's birthday today.  He must be thinking if he can't get into that Man United team he must be finished as a footballer?!  United were dreadful yesterday against Chelsea, losing 4-0.  The defence need at least four new players and how did Pogba cost so much money?  Chelsea manager Antonio Conte completely out thought the special one and it was a great performance from Chelsea but a shocking one from United.  Bring back Rooney as they are that bad!

Lewis Hamilton won the American Grand Prix in great style but the TV coverage was more interested in the things that were going on behind Hamilton, they only showed him crossing the line all on his own.

England won the Test in a very close finish against Bangladesh this morning.  Padraig Harrington won the Portuguese Golf Masters, his first title in 8 years.

JP will be pleased my new years resolution for 2011 is to stop leaving everything so late!
