It was a good day for the stable yesterday as Daklondike proved a nice winner of the novices' hurdle at Lingfield.  He was our only runner of the day and clearly enjoyed the heavy ground.  The former Irish point-to-point winner saw the trip out well as you would expect and he can win again over timber before going chasing and will prove even better over further.  He is a half-brother to David's Paddy Power Gold Cup and Cheltenham Festival winner Great Endeavour and it would be fantastic if he shared his esteemed relations ability.  He provided stable jockey Tom Scudamore with his 50th winner of the season - Tom went on to complete a double aboard his brother's Grace Tara who looked to be another one to enjoy the underfoot conditions.

Talking of Tom Scudamore, he says that he has two great rides at Newbury on Saturday where he will take the mounts aboard Un Temps Pour Tout in the Hennessy Gold Cup and Cheltenham Gold Cup favourite Thistlecrack.  It is eight years since Tom won the Hennessy aboard David's Madison du Berlais - let's hope the pair can repeat the dose.

This afternoon there are four meetings taking place with jumps cards from Hereford and Wetherby and a couple of all-weather flat fixtures from Wolverhampton and Kempton.  Stable jockey Tom Scudamore heads off to Hereford for a couple of rides although one of those is a 66/1 so don't get too excited!

I see that trainer Hughie Morrison has taken a swipe at Southwell racecourse for abandoning yesterday's fixture.  He says, "It is disappointing an all-weather track can't absorb that much rain'.  How can it be called all-weather racing?

Premier League winners Leicester have progressed to the knockout stages of the Champions League after they beat Club Brugge 2-1.  The Champions League must be a lot easier than the Premiership!  Meanwhile Spurs managed to lose 2-1 to Monaco and can not qualify for the latter stages - they used all of their luck up against West Ham...do I sound bitter?  I had to feel sorry for the beleaguered Fulham fans when I heard that they have to pay £2.50 for a cup of tea - that is as much as Manchester United and Liverpool.  The only trouble is, at Fulham they don't have any cups!

I see that former cricketers Kevin Pietersen, Shane Warne and Michael Slater have all been fined £175 for driving without seat belts whilst filming in Tasmania, Australia.  A viewer spotted it on television and contacted the police - they said that Warned could have got into a spin!

My maths teacher once asked me if I understood inequalities?  I replied 'more or less'.
