There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Doncaster and Newbury as well as a couple of all-weather flat fixtures from Newcastle and Wolverhampton. It is the first day of the Hennessy meeting at Newbury and there is some good prize money up for grabs with the least valuable race worth £10,000. Although the stable has no runners today, Tom Scudamore has picked up a nice outside ride at Newbury so let's see if the 'one ride' theory pays dividends today!
The theory certainly worked yesterday when Noel Fehily turned up for one mount at Taunton with Misterton duly obliging in the first race, in the process turning over a Paul Nicholls trained odds-on favourite. Our only runner yesterday, Impulsive American finished fourth at Taunton. Tom Scudamore held him up to get the 2m7f trip although to be honest, I am still not sure whether he stayed or not. I wouldn't be surprised to see him competing over shorter the next time we see him.
Also at Taunton, patience was rewarded when Somerset Lias finally shed his maiden tag at the 26th time of asking. I would have thought that most people would have given up long before then. The fitting of blinkers certainly seemed to do the trick so well done to connections.

There was a good result for Manchester United in Europe last night as they beat Feyenoord 4-0. A goal from Wayne Rooney meant that he became United's top European scorer with 39 goals, beating Ruud Van Nistelrooy's 11 year record. He only needs another two goals to beat Sir Bobby Charlton's all-time record as United's top scorer, not that he should really be mentioned in the same breath.
It looks as though Joey Barton could find his way back into the Premier League with Burnley. Manager Steven Dyche says he wants some more punch in his team so there was only ever one man for the job!
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has called time on his footballing career. The term legend is used far too often these days but I honestly believe that Gerrard fits the bill. My memory of him scoring in the last minute against my beloved West Ham in the 2006 Cup to level the match 3-3 before beating the Hammers on penalties still haunts me now. I was there that day and I don't mind telling you, it was a long drive home from Cardiff!

I had an ice cube fight last night. It didn't last long as things got a bit heated! Keep smiling...
