We have three meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Wincanton and Catterick while there is an all-weather flat card from Southwell.  David has four runners this afternoon at Wincanton; Citrus and Carqalin in the novices' handicap hurdle at 12.40pm, while Gary Charm and Cafe de Paris contest the staying handicap chase at 1.40pm.  Citrus was a winner at Plumpton last month and competes from a mark of 110 today and while he is favourite according to the Post, he would need to improve again.  Meanwhile Carqalin shaped with a little more promise last time at Chepstow, is down a bit in the weights and has Michael Heard taking a further 5lbs off his back.

Gary Charm and Cafe de Paris were both prolific winners in France in their younger days and have shown enough to suggest there are races in them.  Cafe de Paris might just prove the better of our pair and if he stays this trip he could have each way claims at a reasonable price.

The yard was a little unlucky yesterday when Tom Scudamore was unseated from Work at the second last at Ffos Las when seemingly going well in front.  She would have gone very close to winning this and can surely win something similar before too long.  Furthermore, there is still a 25% share available in her if anyone is interested - as you can see from the picture (right), she is a fine, big, progressive filly.  She is fit and ready to run and will give any prospective owner plenty of fun at an affordable price.  Do get in touch with our office if you fancy a bit of Work!

What terribly sad news about the passing of Walter Swinburn yesterday.  'The Choirboy' rode a few times on the flat for Martin and was most famed for his partnership with Derby winners Shergar and Lammtarra.  A P McCoy summed it up beautifully when he said "the owner of talent that most jockeys can only dream about".

Former champion jump jockey John Francome is 64 today.  John would rather that was his golf score rather than his age!  He showed us around the facilites at Lambourn only recently and remains one of racing's most flamboyant characters and still looks like he hasn't seen a comb in his entire life!  Many happy returns John.

Arsenal are away to Everton tonight at 7.45pm on BT Sport.  I think the Gunners have caught Everton at just the right time and at 10/11 they look worth a wager.  Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp and Gary Neville have become involved in a war of words.  Neville said that goalkeeper Loris Karius was not up to scratch (and I have to say that I agree with him).  The scouse keeper has made several terrible errors recently - if I was Klopp I think I would rest Karius, he is under intense scrutiny and is unlikely to improve for the pressure.
