There are three fixtures taking place this afternoon with jumps action from our local track at Taunton, while there are two all-weather flat meetings from Kempton and Southwell. David has quite a few runners at Taunton today with Vincent's Forever, Ramses de Teillee, Sweettoothtommy and Port Navas all taking part. It looks like a tricky day for our runners. Ramses de Teillee (pictured above) makes his debut for the stable this afternoon having shown some decent form when winning an Irish point-to-point, although this appears to be a very competitive maiden hurdle. Port Navas has been in consistent form of late, finishing in the frame on his last three starts and he could be our best chance today.
I thought that Conor O'Farrell gave Caprice d'Anglais a good front-running ride at Hereford yesterday. He had the race in safe keeping from a long way out before scoring by four lengths. Meanwhile Tom Scudamore was also among the winners as he steered Big River to victory for Lucinda Russell up at Ayr, so all in all it was a good day for the Pond House jockeys.
Looking at today's Kempton card there is a race worth just £2,264. In fact, there are two races being run for that money - how do they get away with it? The trouble is, so long as owners and trainers keep declaring their horses for these race, the courses will continue to push their luck.
Talking about Kempton, what about Thistlecrack taking on Cue Card in the King George on Boxing Day? It should certainly be some contest and the bookies are finding it hard to split the pair with Cue Card an 11/8 chance and Thistlecrack at 6/4. I wonder if experience will win the day?
There was a good result for Liverpool last night as they won their local derby 1-0 against Everton, although they had to wait until the 90th minute for the winning goal. Mind you, Barkley should have been sent straight off for his late challenge on Henderson.
The FA are expected to pay a poppy fine. If I were running the FA there is no way that I would be paying a fine to FIFA - all the home nations should be sticking together and telling FIFA to get stuffed.
The final test in England could end in a draw and that would be almost as good as a win for England! India made 789 runs - that is the biggest score England have conceded in 883 test matches. Are we that bad? Unfortunately, the simple answer is yes!
I was quite drunk last night so I ended up taking a bus. That may not sound like a bid deal to you, but I have never driven a bus before!
