There are three meetings (hopefully) taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Catterick and Leicester although they both need to pass early morning inspections, meanwhile there are no anticipated problems on the all-weather at Lingfield. If Leicester gets the go-ahead David runs Father Edward in the 2m4f novices' chase at 3.10pm. He was a good winner first time out at Cartmel before disappointing last time at Market Rasen. A repeat of his earlier form would see him go close although Master Dee does look like a worthy favourite.
It was a race against time for Tom Scudamore yesterday. They showed a picture of him on television running to get to Chepstow because funny enough, the traffic was bad! Tom made it with a minute to spare before weighing out on Full Irish. The horse went on to finish second. It was another good day for the Tizzard's who landed the big one with Native River for Garth and Anne Broom.
It was sad to see the end of the Channel 4 Racing coverage after 32 years. I just hope that ITV get it right - they are going to be drawing a lot of comparisons and they are going to be in for plenty of criticism if they get anything wrong.
Andrew Thornton rode his 1,000th winner at Wincanton on Boxing Day and has now decided that he wants to make it 2,000...given how long he has been in the 990's, he could be the oldest jockey of all time!
Liverpool looked good as they dismantled Stoke 4-1 yesterday. Stoke went 1-0 up early but then were completely played off the park.
I see that Miguel Angel Jimenez says that he was snubbed for the Ryder Cup captaincy because his English was not good enough. Imagine if that were the case in all sports...there would be no managers in the Premier League! Speaking of which, Spurs go to Southampton tonight and at odds of around 17/10 they look like a decent bet to me.
Mrs Barnes says that she is leaving me due to my lack of vocabulary. I was lost for words!
