Meeting at Lingfield Abandoned

There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with Lingfield's jumps card supported by three all-weather flat meetings from Wolverhmampton, Southwell and Chelmsford.  Lingfield need to pass an 8am inspection after temperatures dropped as low as -5°c overnight - that does not augur well.  Should the fixture get the go-ahead David runs Poisoned Berry in the 3.20pm race - a 2m7f mares' handicap hurdle.  Our five year old has to shoulder top weight of 11-12 less conditional jockey David Noonan's 3lbs claim - I don't think the handicapper has done her too many favours with a mark of 114, so let's hope that she is capable of reproducing her Exeter form where she bolted up by 11 lengths.

I went into my local Ladbrokes in Brixham yesterday, not so much for the racing but just to keep warm.  I couldn't believe how many people were in there playing the machines - I use the term 'playing' loosely - you just feed your money in, press the button and the machine does the rest.  I don't suppose they are putting their money in thinking they are going to lose, but I wonder how many of them think they are actually going to win?

I hope a few of you followed me in and backed Spurs yesterday to beat Chelsea.  Spurs won 2-0 and looked the better side - the result certainly opened up the Premier League.  Meanwhile, the red card that West Ham's Sofiane Feghoulis was given that I was moaning about last week has been rescinded.  It should never have been given in the first place.  I wonder if the referee Mike Dean escapes punishment for getting it so badly wrong?

Meanwhile Hull have taken on Marco Silva as their new boss.  He should be able to help them as he hardly speaks a word of English!  He was sacked from his job at Sporting Lisbon for not wearing a club blazer.  I don't think there is much point in him buying a house in Hull - he cannot save them from the drop, meaning that his tenure will be short lived.

I see that tennis great Roger Federer lost to a German teenager, Alexander Zverev in the Hopman Cup yesterday.  Federer is now 35 years old and would have made short work of his opponent in his younger days.  You have to know when it is time to call it a day as you don't want to start losing to players you would have beaten during your peak.

There was some breaking news when a rare Picasso sold for £106 million...who on earth would pay that for a Citroen?!  Have a nice day...
