There are just two meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps action from Kelso and Fakenham.  Fakenham have to pass an inspection and the weather at the moment does not look good.  What amazes me is that northern track Kelso are set to go ahead without any problems.  If the action goes ahead we could have three runners in Work, Poker Play and Mango Cap.

I was taking a look through the jockey's table and it occurred to me that things are very much as they were when A P McCoy was dominating the jockeys' championship although it is Richard Johnson's name at the top of the list these days.  Johnson is already 45 winners ahead of his nearest rival although that is hardly surprising when you consider that he has had over 200 rides more than any other rider out there.

There is some great footballing action to look forward to this afternoon.  It is Manchester versus Liverpool today as United take on Liverpool at 4.00pm and City play Everton at 1.30pm.  Both games are on Sky and if I were a betting man, I reckon it could be a Manchester double - United at 6/5 at City at 5/6.  If either of the Manchester clubs lose, it could mark the end of any title hopes.  You know where I am going to be this Sunday afternoon!

Why do we need 48 teams in the football World Cup?  If I were a cynic I might suggest that with more nations voting, there is much greater chance of votes for president Gianni Infantino in the future...in short, the Blatter technique.  Soon we will be welcoming the Isle Of Wight and Isle Of Man to the competition!

I had better say well done to British lady tennis player Johanna Konta on her win in Australia, a second WTA title.  I do have a go at our lady tennis players but it looks like in her, we at least have one capable of winning plenty of matches.  In fact, she is now number 10 in the world - we will just overlook the fact that she is Hungarian, British and Australian by nationality...she is British, very British!  Meanwhile British men's number one Andy Murray is drawn in the same quarter of the draw as Roger Federer in the Australian Open.

A man walks into a library and asks for a book about suffocation.  The librarian asks, "would you like a bag with that?"
