There are three meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Newcastle and Bangor as well as an all-weather flat card from Wolverhampton.  David has one runner this afternoon and unusually that comes on the flat as Perspicace takes in the 1m6f handicap at 4.00pm.  He has top weight to carry but has some fair placed form to his name on the level and is not without a chance in a trappy little race under Dougie Costello.  Meanwhile stable jockey Tom Scudamore and conditional David Noonan have both picked up spare rides at Bangor - Tom looks to have decent prospects aboard his brother's Dinsdale in the 2.00pm race.

The disappointing horse of the weekend had to be talking horse Alary who was pulled up in the Peter Marsh Chase at Haydock.  He had been bigged up so much by trainer Colin Tizzard that he has to be better than he showed there.

I have come up with an ingenious plan to stop the Jockey Club selling Kempton Park racecourse and putting up 3,000 new houses...you need to find a protected animal that lives there.  It wasn't so long ago that my local golf club had trouble with bats on the course.  Surely there is something that lives there that we can create stink about?  What about toads, frogs or newts?  Just a thought...

There was a terrible clash of heads in the fight between Ryan Mason and Gary Cahill over the weekend.  Mason was taken to hospital and they have operated on a fractured skull - you could see straight away that it was serious.

Plenty of people refer to 'lucky old Arsenal', well they were certainly lucky to get a result against Burnley with a 90th minute penalty that should never have been given - Arsenal's player was offside.  Having said that, it did mean that my treble came up with Southampton and Chelsea so it wasn't all bad!  There was some terrible goalkeeping in the Premier League over the weekend and I certainly wouldn't want to depend on the Liverpool or Spurs keepers.

A below form Andy Murray was beaten by world number 50 Zverev who came out dressed as an orange in the Australian Open.  From Murray's point of view, at least he lasted longer than Novak Djokovic.  Meanwhile, fellow Brit Dan Evans was also knocked out.  At least we still have British Australian Johanna Konta through to the quarter finals of the ladies' event.

Ronnie O'Sullivan won a record seventh Masters Championship at the Ally Pally yesterday.  On his best form he is probably the finest player of all time and he is a character too.  Every sport needs someone like him who can grab the headlines (for whatever reason!).

Thought for the day...Isn't it a sad state of affairs when we live in a society where pizza gets to your house before the police?!
