Hopefully there will be three meetings taking place this afternoon although Warwick's jumps card needs to pass an early morning inspection. Meanwhile there are all-weather flat fixtures from Southwell and Wolverhampton. If Warwick does get the green light David will have three runners; Ballywilliam, Midnight Magic and Mister Drifter. Ballywilliam (pictured above) contests the 3m2f handicap hurdle at 2.35pm - he will need to perform better than when pulling up last time out but had previously won at Uttoxeter on heavy ground - if he can bounce back to that sort of form he would not be without a chance. Midnight Magic makes his racecourse debut in the first division of the bumper at 3.45pm - there are winners in the race and it looks a competitive contest. He goes nicely at home but is sure to learn plenty for the experience. Mr Drifter is our last runner in the second division of the bumper at 4.20pm - he performed creditably on his first start in a Uttoxeter race that is working out very well and he could run well - Tom Scudamore is aboard all three.
At least Cheltenham are doing their best to get this weekend's meeting to go ahead (although given that it is trials day, you would hope that they would make the effort!) - they have already covered the track and clerk of the course Simon Claisse doesn't envisage any problems - mind you, I have heard that one before! Meanwhile, Doncaster have frost covers down ahead of their meeting tomorrow and Taunton say they have no problems. I find that hard to believe given that there was loads of frost about at David's yesterday.
I see that it is former jockey Sandy May's 66th birthday today. Sandy must have been a good pilot as he even rode a winner for me at Hereford! Many happy returns Sandy.

What a result for Southampton last night as they beat Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield and now progress to the final of the EFL Cup. Tonight the second leg of the other semi takes place between Hull and Manchester United - it looks very much like a Southampton versus United final to me.
Newly crowned Masters snooker champion Ronnie O'Sullivan is in the USA making a television series called American Hustle - I know snooker is not a big sport in the States but surely there would be people who recognise the Rocket? I did something similar back in the 60's and 70's at table tennis and nearly managed to get away with it! Eventually they found a picture of me in a table tennis magazine as Sports Illustrated had given me an award for winning three English titles before my 17th birthday...there ended my hustling days although they were good while they lasted!

I could tell my parents hated me when I was a child - my bath toys were a toaster and a radio!
