Warthog 2nd At Chepstow

There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Newbury and Musselburgh while there are all-weather flat cards from Lingfield and Newcastle.  It looks like a quiet day for the horses and jockeys at Pond House.  I thought that Warthog ran creditably yesterday in the bumper at Chepstow, finishing runner-up to the four year old Dessinateur to whom he was trying to concede 7lbs.  It looks as though our former Irish point winner already needs a longer trip and he rates a nice prospect along with the winner.

Nicky Henderson looks like he is going to be giving it his best shot in a bid to land the trainers' championship with several of his stars being aimed at Aintree.  He is currently around £130,000 ahead which is a useful start to have and he is a 1/2 chance - I have backed worse 1/2 shots!

Ludlow have been very vocal in lambasting trainers for not running their horses at the track.  Apparently the trainers say it is because of the soft ground, although I would have thought that the track hosting the wrong type of race would be a more pertinent comment, afterall do we not get soft ground in March?

Greyhound racing is going through a tough time with Wimbledon shutting it's gates tomorrow for the final time.  I used to go to Walthamstow when I was a youngster and it was a great venue with a fantastic restaurant - that track closed years ago.  What is the problem with dog racing?  I seem to be asking a lot of questions this morning!  But these are sad and worrying times for the greyhound industry.

Ireland take on Wales this evening in the football tonight at 7.45pm - it is a match that Wales need to win.  The one world class player on the pitch will be Gareth Bale who is coming back from an injury.  The Welsh are a best priced 40/17 and I will be having a little interest bet on them.
