There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with flat action from Haydock, Yarmouth, Newbury and Epsom as well as a jumps fixture from Perth. David does not have any runners today. Meanwhile, Celestial Path finished third in what looked like a decent novices' hurdle for this time of year at Worcester yesterday and he certainly looks to have races in him over hurdles based on this evidence. Owner Professor Caroline Tisdall was interviewed before the race by Attheraces presenter Luke Harvey and I thought she handled him well when he asked about all her horses. Caroline complimented Luke on his contribution to ITV's Royal Ascot coverage - it was a good move as he clearly doesn't get too many people being nice to him...it caught him off guard and he lost his thread for a moment or two!
Following success at Windsor on Monday evening, Hayley Turner came back to earth with a bump in Sweden when she finished last in the lady jockey's world championship in Sweden. I don't think she will be swapping the comfort of the commentary box for a saddle again any time soon.
Many happy returns to one of our travelling head lad's. It is Bob Hodge's 48th birthday today and the Racing Post says that he was the rider of Melottie and Cab On Target who he used to partner for Mary Reveley during his riding days. They must have been good horses! It is also colourful owner Stuart Mercer's 75th birthday - he is the youngest 75 year old you have ever seen with his bright shirts and ties and yes, hat...you know who I mean now!

There are four British tennis players through to the third round of Wimbledon today - the first time that has happened since 1997. Andy Murray won in straight sets yesterday and is starting to show some better form.
The test match cricket series between England and South Africa also starts today and England are 8/13 favourites to win the four game series. With all of this good sport on the television this summer I have hidden the remote control from Mrs Barnes...no Love Island for me!

Talking of Mrs Barnes - she is so bloody immature. Only last night, there I was having a bath and she walked in and sank all of my boats! Keep smiling...
