Racing is a dangerous profession and while it is generally accepted that it is the jockeys who are at most risk, there was a close thing at Warwick yesterday involving the course doctor. One of the horses lashed out and caught him on the shoulder - if he had caught him a few inches further over I wouldn't like to think about what might have happened. Anyway, the racecourse vet was on hand to offer assistance and the doctor was okay (if a little shaken-up) and racing was allowed to continue. It just goes to show that all of the people working in the industry earn their money.

There was obviosly plenty of money about at the Tattersalls Ireland bloodstock sales yesterday. The top lot of the day was an unraced gelding who fetched €340,000 - the amazing thing is that he only made €30,000 on his first visit to the sales! The Gatterstown Stud really showed a profit on their investment - Alan Potts was the successful bidder...I hope he manages to win a few!

I always appreciate a well named horse and there was one that caught my eye at Newcastle yesterday. The horse was called Lucky Last...yes, you guessed it, he finished last of sixteen!

I see that Manchester United have signed Ashley Young from Aston Villa for around £17million - one thing that puzzles me though...how is it that a team in so much debt can spend so much money?

I have a couple more pictures to share with you from the gallops earlier in the week. Below you will see Matuhi and Woodlark Island completing solo spins during morning exercise.
