Loads More Rain

There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Wetherby and Uttoxeter, a flat fixture from Newmarket and an all-weather flat card from Kempton.  There is some good action to look forward to with Newmarket hosting a quality Listed contest for two year old fillies', whilst there are a couple of Listed races over the sticks at Wetherby.  David has no runners today, although we will be busy tomorrow with runners at three meetings.

It has been a wet and windy 24 hours in the area with 31mm of rain falling overnight and plenty of localised flooding.  October has already been easily the wettest month of the year so far, with the exception of May so it would appear that the genuine winter ground is going to be with us at last.

The Newmarket Sales finished yesterday evening and trade was remarkably strong, especially given the current economic climate and the ongoing effects of the Covid pandemic with prices very high.  We bought some very nice types to be going on with and I am sure you will be hearing more of those in due course.

Australia looked good as they ran out comfortable winners of their T20 cricket match against Sri Lanka yesterday.  They won by seven wickets with three overs to spare.  There are a couple of matches taking place today with West Indies taking on Bangladesh and Pakistan versus Afghanistan.

Emma Raducanu quickly managed to get the monkey of winning a WTA match off her back after her US Open success and is looking good in the Transylanian Open as reached the quarter finals yesterday.  Seeded number 3 for the event, the world number 23 will be cheered on by her family at the event.  They were unable to travel to America owing to travel restrictions, but with her grandmother still living in Romania, she won't be lacking for support.
