What a shame for Frankie Dettori and the whole Godolphin team to lose Rewilding in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot on Saturday.  The horse, who enjoyed arguably his finest hour when denying the Ballydoyle superstar So You Think at the Royal meeting in June had to be put down after breaking his near fore leg in the home straight.  It is always very sad to see any horse go in this manner, but to lose a top-class horse during one of the flat's highest profile races is a great pity for all of racing.  Hopefully Frankie's x-rays will come back clear and he will be back in the saddle very shortly.  It was a great performance from the progressive Nathaniel and worthy of plenty of credit, but it was overshadowed by the tragic events.

I thought that the stable's Reset City was in the process of running a big race on the flat at Salisbury on Saturday when meeting with interference.  She seemed to empty out quite quickly after that and Richard Hughes allowed her to coast home - she did pull quite hard early in the race and the 1m6f trip might just have caught her out.  There could be a race in her back over 1m4f.

They say that jockeys are the worst tipsters and that was again bourne out on when Richard Hills was interviewed on Turf TV about his book of rides for the day.  He said that Mabaany was his best chance of the day shortly before that one was beaten...he subsequently went on to complete a 188/1 double on Nehaam and Raasekha!  The moral of the story - don't ask a jockey for tips!

There was finally an uninterupted day's play at Lords yesterday and what a great day's action Martin and David saw.  They saw a great ton from Matt Prior and it was certainly needed after England lost some early wickets cheaply.  I cannot see India getting the runs required to win, so the 11/8 on offer with Corals about an England victory looks tempting to me.

Amy Winehouse...what a complete waste of a life.  It was a shock to hear the news if not a complete surprise...it had looked to be on the cards for some time.  If I were on the police force, I would be wanting to speak with her so-called friends who would know where she obtained the tools of her destruction.
