Lady Reset runs at Doncaster Today
Today we have the one runner on the flat, Lady Reset at Doncaster this evening, 6.05pm. She runs in the Fillies handicap over 1m2f and there is some good prize money up for grabs. There are only five runners but they are good ones and there are a couple of three year olds in the line up so it is going to be tough. Three year olds on the flat over the distance currently receive a whopping 15 pounds from their elders which makes things tough for the older horses. We entered on Monday and thought we would keep an eye on how many three year olds were being declared and when there were only two so we decided to take our chance. Our fantastic little mare won five races last summer, two over hurdles and three on the flat, including over course and distance. She is racing off a career high mark today but is in terrific form at home and she always tries 110%. She had a winter break and has come back to run well twice over hurdles, finishing second on both occasions. The horse at the bottom of the weights, the David Simcock trained three year old called Aiming High looks dangerous however and could be tough to beat but we know our mare will do her best and we will see what happens.
It is a busy day on the racing front with five flat meetings at Newmarket, Newbury, Thirsk, Chelmsford and Doncaster while these is also two jumps meetings at Bangor and Uttoxeter this evening. In Ireland they have action on the flat at Navan and over jumps at Wexford. There is also interesting racing abroad this evening over in America at Percy Warner Park. They have a Grade 1 hurdle and Nicky Henderson runs Pistol Whipped in the contest while the former Nigel Hawke trained, Historic Heart also runs in this race. In a different contest, Gordon Elliot runs Burn the Evidence with Davy Russel on board. If you are interested in watching, the races are due off at 9.00pm and 9.40pm our time.
Back a bit closer to home, the feature race on the Newbury card is the Lockinge at 3.20pm. The very exciting Baeed trained by William Haggas is the very short priced favourite with Jim Crowley on board. He was a top miler last year and looks very hard to oppose in this.
Yesterday we saw Stradivarius do what he does best up at York as he won the Yorkshire Cup, Group 1 for the third time in his career. It was his 18th Group race all told, making him the most successful horse ever in Europe and he got the reception he truly deserved. He is a remarkable horse and the eight year old is quite a handful to do anything with we are told but he certainly knows how to win and still loves his racing. Racing needs hero horses like these and it sounds like Royal Ascot is next on the cards before maybe bowing out in the Goodwood Cup in July before going off to stud. I would love to see him win those races and fairy tales do happen.
Today we also have the FA Cup Final at Wembley where Liverpool play Chelsea kicking off at 4.45pm. I know Jack and David will be tuning in and cheering on the blues! Have a good Saturday, enjoy all the action everyone.
