Weekend Jottings

There are three meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Goodwood, Yarmouth and Beverley.  That's three days in a row without all-weather racing!  I'm sorry if you're a fan, but I can't say I miss it that much.  The pick of today's action comes from Goodwood where they have a real mixed bag featuring Group 3 action at the top end and a seller at the opposite end of the spectrum.

The seller is for three year old's over 1m3f, so there could be some potential jumpers in the line-up.  A lot of the sellers or claimers in this country are run over shorter distances which I have always found odd.  I would have thought in order to attract as much interest as possible, middle distance races would have been the norm, thus appealing to flat and jumps trainers alike.

With no jump racing there are no runners from the Pond House team today, although we will be back with several runners at Newton Abbot on Tuesday.  We declare at 10am this morning ahead of that fixture.

There are three Premiership football matches to look forward to this afternoon.  Wolves against Newcastle United looks like a good game on paper, meanwhile, there is a clash of the claret and blues with Aston Villa hosting West Ham.

The F1 takes place at Spa, Belgium this weekend and it is always an enjoyable race at one of the finest tracks in the world.  I will have to watch it on catch up as I will be at Thruxton with my eldest, to enjoy the British Touring Car Championship.  They may not be quite as fast, but it is much more competitive with the cars very evenly matched and there is often a lot of contact.  Of course, I organised this long before I realised it was a Bank Holiday weekend so wish me luck as I travel either way past Stonehenge today!
