Shot Boii runs at Plumpton Today

Today we are once again in the hands of the weather as to whether racing goes ahead or not, but if it does we have two runners at Plumpton, Dindin and Shot Boii.  The track does have to pass an 8.30am inspection however so we will just have to see what happens.  Our lorry set off for the races as late as we could possibly leave it this morning in case they are told to turn around if it is abandoned!  We normally allow lots of time to prepare for any eventually we might come across on our journey but fingers crossed racing will be on and all will go smoothly!  Plumpton looked at the course yesterday afternoon and had seen significant improvement with the track since their morning check and with temperatures not quite as cold last night they are hopeful.

Dindin runs for the first time in the David Pipe Racing Club colours in the conditional jockeys handicap chase at 1.55pm.  If he runs as he did the last time at this track over the slightly shorter trip I think he has a great chance.  Tom Scu was on board that day and he went hard from the front and tired from two out.  Philip Armson who knows him well is back on board.  He looks a good each way value bet and hopefully he won’t be too far away.

Shot Boii runs in the handicap hurdle over three miles at 3.35pm with Tom Scu in the saddle.  Shot Boii is three from three over hurdles this season and even though he races off a career high mark I think there is more to come and he looks to have a great chance.  He is a horse I like a lot as he never does more than he has to, while trying his hardest if that makes sense!  Fergus Gillard has been on board for his last two wins and it is unlucky for him but Tom Scu jumps back on this afternoon after the abandonment of Newbury yesterday.  It looks fairly competitive at the top of the market in this race but I would not swap our boy for anyone.

Unfortunately Plumpton if it goes ahead is the only jumps meeting left standing for today after Newbury was called off yesterday morning.  The roads on the way to work for me were not very pleasant with lots of icy patches.  There are two all-weather fixtures at Wolverhampton and Southwell and they are also on the Polytrak in Ireland at Dundalk.  We are due to have runners at Wincanton tomorrow but they have already scheduled a morning inspection so once again we have to plan like racing goes ahead but the chances are it may not!  It will be the same for Friday and then hopefully things start to warm up a little.  On my lunchtime dog walk yesterday we actually has some nice sunshine and it was very pleasant.  With no cloud cover either it is nice the evenings are starting to draw out a tiny bit as well.

I love following a lot of sports and tennis is another of my favourites.  I am lucky enough to have been to Wimbledon and Roland Garros to watch games and although I haven’t watched an actual tennis match in Australia I did visit the Rod Laver arena and went behind the scenes of the stadium on a tour.  I mention this as the Australian Open in underway and I see that Andy Murray stunned everyone by winning his first round match against Matteo Berrettini, the 13th seed.  Although I did not get to watch any of it was a thrilling five set match which lasted five hours.  He faced match points against him in the final set before winning the tie-break 10-6 and left the whole tennis world full of admiration.  The 35 year old Scot is in the only player to have returned from him surgery to play at the highest level and put in a magnificent performance.  I am not sure who he plays in the next round yet as some of the play has been delayed due to the extreme heat over there at the moment.

Back to the football, my team Manchester United are back in League action tonight as they travel to Crystal Palace, 7.45pm kick off.  Fingers crossed they can continue in good form and at least keep league leaders Arsenal in their sights for now! Liverpool beat Wolves last night 1-0 and are through to the FA Cup Fourth round but it was not the most entertaining of games!

Freddie Mercury, Venus Williams and Bruno Mars walk into a bar.  They didn’t planet that way!  Have a good Wednesday.
