Paricolor Runs at Doncaster Today!

Today we just have the one runner at Doncaster, Paricolor.  He runs in the 2.25pm handicap hurdle over three miles with Philip Armson on board.  He is a horse I have a soft spot for as he is a lovely boy at home and he has been a model of consistency since arriving from France as a three year old.  Still only seven, he has won nine of his 27 starts over hurdles, a pretty impressive strike rate and I would love him to make it win number ten this afternoon.  He ran a cracker at Cheltenham on his penultimate start and ran okay in a much hotter company at Warwick last time.  He returns to calmer waters this afternoon on ground he likes and he has run well at the course before.  He is about 4/1 third in the betting and hopefully he has a good chance.

Yesterday Kingofthewest finished third at Market Rasen, he ran okay but I thought he may have done a bit better.  I don’t think Free Chakarte tried very hard and Poseidon also ran okay.  Jack Tudor thought he found the ground lively enough and was just out speeded as the field turned for home.  He thought he kept galloping all the way to the line and if the handicapper gives him some help he will give our David Pipe Racing Club members some fun.

There are two jumps meetings today, as well as Doncaster, there is action at Ludlow where Fergus Gillard is in action for his dad.  Coincidently, alongside Paricolor at Doncaster, Philip is also riding for his dad at the meeting!  There are two all-weather meetings at Newcastle and Kempton and in Ireland they race at Punchestown.

David travelled to St Georges Hall in Liverpool yesterday with Tom Scudamore for the revealing of the Grand National weights.  Remastered carries 10st 10lb and is number 31 on the list so will definitely get a run.  Last year’s winner, Noble Yeats carried 10st 10lb to victory so maybe that is a sign!! That horse has to carry 19 pounds more this time around if he wants to try and win back to back Nationals.  Any Second Now, Conflated and Hewick jointly head the weights, while Velvet Elvis is number 40 on the list at this stage.  The entries in the Grand National were reduced further yesterday morning when Henry De Bromhead announced the retirement of 2021 winner, Minella Times after he suffered a setback in preparation for another crack at the race in April.

Last night Real Madrid beat Liverpool 5-2, while the Champions League action continues this evening and Manchester City are away at RB Leipzig.
